Hereby JSC Latvijas kuģniecība (Latvian Shipping Company - LASCO) informs that today, 5 June 2007, the seventh of in total fourteen tanker newbuildings has been delivered to LASCO in a festive ceremony held at 3.Maj shipyard in Croatia. The above-mentioned tanker named Ugale is already the fifth of ten newbuildings ordered by LASCO at Croatian 3.Maj. On 9 February 2007 she was blessed by her Godmother Ms. Lilita Seimuškāne, Director of Ventspils Development Agency and lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Management, the University of Latvia. The 51,700-deadweight-ton double-hull product tankers ordered by Latvijas kuģniecība at the Croatian shipyard are constructed to carry both oil and chemical products. Due to their universality, the vessels are able to trade all over the world (including the western coast of North Europe, America, the Mediterranean and Russia) carrying cargoes mainly from the Baltic and Black Sea ports. The vessels built within the frames of LASCO Tanker Fleet Renewal Programme are named after Latvian regions and towns. Thus, the first four newbuildings delivered by 3.Maj were named Ance, Jurkalne, Puze and Targale. At present JSC Latvijas kuģniecība fleet comprises 30 tankers, 2 LPG carriers, 5 reefer vessels and 1 Ro-Ro/general type vessel, as well as three tankers (Blue Star, Green Star and Maria M) time chartered in from other ship-owners.
