Jupiter Hosting Redefines the Web Hosting Landscape by Standardizing On Foundry Networks

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 6, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Jupiter Hosting, a premier managed hosting provider, reports significant progress towards achieving an ambitious multifaceted expansion plan. Today, the company announced the installation of a new core-to-edge network infrastructure comprised exclusively of switching and routing solutions by Foundry Networks(r) Inc. (Nasdaq:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing, including NetIron(r) XMR 4000 and 16000 Series backbone routers, FastIron(r) Workgroup Edge X and FastIron GS edge aggregation switches. In total, Jupiter Hosting plans to incorporate and deploy over 40 new Foundry switches and routers in their rapidly growing network.

Due to exponential growth in its high-volume bandwidth services, Jupiter Hosting needed to engineer an entirely new edge-to-core network infrastructure in order to meet immediate capacity needs. The company also required the ability to scale efficiently without service interruption, while reducing maintenance costs across the backbone. Another goal of the network redesign was reducing the physical link count in the backbone.

To accomplish these objectives, Jupiter Hosting aggregated all upstream and peering transit to 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) links. The new backbone and border architecture is comprised of Foundry Networks award-winning NetIron XMR 4000 and 16000 backbone routers, which are configured to provide N+1 redundancy while supporting up to 81Gbps of IP transit. The new design will also boast the ability to efficiently scale to accommodate traffic flows of approximately 200 Gbps within the coming years, as expected growth demands further expansion.

At the edge of the network, Jupiter Hosting has upgraded all edge services, using GbE to connect to each managed hosting platform. As a result of this improvement, the company's next-generation network is now comprised of more than 2,000 GbE interfaces, making it the largest managed hosting company providing copper GbE to each managed server platform.

"This new network took more than a year to design and plan. From the beginning of the process, the upgrade was a collaborative effort between Jupiter Hosting and Foundry Networks," said Ray Taft, president and CEO of Jupiter Hosting. "Our network now has a complete platform architecture that will scale to accommodate future bandwidth and service expansion. Our guarantee of maximum throughput and uninterrupted 24x7 services is not just a marketing tagline; it's a serious promise Jupiter Hosting makes to our customers. We wanted an updated design that would position us to stay ahead of the curve as an industry leader in broadband media delivery. Only Foundry Networks offers a class of products with the advanced capabilities to meet our needs. From an engineering standpoint, there was no other vendor that came close."

The efficiency and reduced maintenance requirements of the new network architecture will substantially reduce Jupiter Hosting's long-term operational costs, a financial benefit that will also help support and facilitate the company's plans for future growth and development. Perhaps most importantly, the improved backbone will only increase Jupiter Hosting's ability to provide its customers maximum uptime, extremely reliable service delivery, and an optimal Internet experience.

"We are very pleased that Jupiter Hosting has selected Foundry's routing and switching solutions for the delivery of advanced managed hosting services," said Ken Cheng, vice president and general manager for Foundry Networks' High End and Service Provider Systems Business Unit. "Service providers require a future-ready platform for the delivery of advanced services, and Foundry's switching and routing solutions deliver this while also providing high availability, scalability, and the performance essential for successful IP service deployments."
