About the United Service Organization:

The USO, founded in Times Square, New York by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1941, has been the civilian support lifeline for millions of our men and women in uniform across the world, providing a "Home-Away-From-Home" during times of war and peace. Through its broad recognition and scope, the USO provides the main link by which the American public can support the unique needs of our modern transient military. The morale and support of our Armed Forces are prime factors in maintaining combat readiness, America's first line of defense. The USO is the only agency that does not charge members of our Armed Forces and does not receive government funds. The USO depends entirely upon the generous support of individual and corporate contributors.
