ADVA Optical Networking Expands Neuf Cegetel's National Broadband Network

Leading French Alternative Carrier Prepares for Rapid Growth in Quad Play Services, DSL Backhaul and Corporate Backbones With Additional FSP 3000 Deployments

PARIS and MARTINSRIED/MUNICH, Germany, June 12, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- ADVA Optical Networking announced today that Neuf Cegetel, the leading alternative carrier in France and one of the world's most innovative broadband operators, is using the ADVA Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 3000 to expand its optical metro core and regional networks. The expansion enables Neuf Cegetel to continue its rapid rollout of broadband services throughout France, ensuring its business and residential customers continue to receive the region's most advanced connectivity solutions.

Since 2003, Neuf Cegetel has developed an all-IP-over-optical network. With unbundled connections to more than 1,200 central offices, covering 70 percent of France's targeted population, Neuf Cegetel is able to respond quickly to its customers' demands, bringing features and services to market as and when it needs. Over several years, ADVA Optical Networking and integrator Sagem Communication have established a strong relationship with Neuf Cegetel. In 2005, they completed the first deployment phase of Neuf Cegetel's (previously Neuf Telecom) nationwide Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) metropolitan and regional network, which spans more than 20,000km of fiber.

Neuf Cegetel now uses the scalability of the ADVA FSP 3000 to deliver the service bandwidth it requires and provision for future growth. The product is deployed from the access network for Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) backhaul into Neuf Cegetel's regional links, which range in length from 50km to 500km and that can now transport data streams of up to 10Gbit/s Ethernet. This enables Neuf Cegetel to accommodate the growth in its DSL traffic, benefit from extra bandwidth capacity, connect core routers and offer enhanced business solutions and wholesale services.

Pierre-Alain Allemand, Neuf Cegetel's general manager of the network division, commented, "ADVA Optical Networking's focus on optical innovation has played a key role in the development of Neuf Cegetel's WDM network. As we continue to respond to our customers' needs, the demand for extra bandwidth to accommodate increased DSL services, business and wholesale communications is growing radically. The ADVA FSP 3000 enables Neuf Cegetel to meet this challenge and to position our network for future growth."

"Neuf Cegetel is a visionary broadband service provider," stated Fabrice Jean, sales director, western Europe and Nordics for ADVA Optical Networking. "As it continues to roll out new quadruple play (data, voice, video and wireless), business and wholesale services, it requires a scalable solution that can respond to intensive bandwidth demands anywhere in the network. Neuf Cegetel has used our products for several years and understands the performance capabilities and flexibility of our portfolio. Combined with our best-in-class logistics and Sagem Communication's deployment efficiency, we offer Neuf Cegetel a complete solution."
