A Rich Historical Fiction About Duty, Honor and Country

Author Fran Gilliland Writes a Compelling Sequel to 'Cibolo Creek'

MISSION, Texas, June 15, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- From the author who brought us Cibolo Creek comes another compelling story of the Army's fight against unscrupulous gunrunners, Morning Wolf. In this sequel that continues the story first begun in Cibolo Creek, author Fran Gilliland weaves another rich tale wrought with danger, drama, action, and romance.

Lieutenant Jared Andrews, known as Morning Wolf, with orders from General Sherman, leads his men from Texas through the wintry blasts of winter as they pursue stolen rifles across New Mexico and Colorado. Forced to split up at the Wyoming border, they continue the desperate race to find the guns in the far north of Wyoming and Deadwood... the seat of gold miner's greed and Indian discontent. Skirmishes with Comanches, Mescaleros, and Sioux Indians, mark their trail as they pursue gunrunner's wagons headed for a fight brewing in the hot-contested Dakotas of 1876.

This book is set in real-time history, rich with the flavors of those times, with themes such as bravery in the face of danger on the frontier, dedication to duty, the bonds formed between men, and courage that succeeds. Those who appreciate Texas history, particularly historians with a grasp of Civil War history, will recognize the names of real officers who fought in that war, such as Grant, Sherman, Sheridan, Custer, Mackenzie, and others, some of whom were later assigned to the frontier to quell the Indian raids and protect citizens. Strongly intertwined in the tale are the stories of the fictional characters, the men and the women who love them, that nicely balances the more serious aspect of this book. About the Author

Fran Gilliland, an artist and author hooked on history, began long ago collecting old family letters, photos, and memorabilia. Learning part of a ranch she inherited sat where 'history literally lay in the grass'... where bullets and arrowheads still marked battles where the Army met the Comanche, Kiowa, and Cheyenne... inspired her research for a novel. Voices on the Wind, Will McGovern, Cibolo Creek, and Morning Wolf, reflect the love she has for working in this genre.
