Entropic Communications Accelerates Net Throughput to 180 MBPS

Packet Aggregation and 16-Node Software Extends c.LINK Performance

CHICAGO, June 19, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- NxTComm Booth: 2480 -- Entropic Communications, Inc., a leading technology solutions provider for connected home entertainment, announces a significant increase in net throughput from 100 Mbps to 180 Mbps -- guaranteeing bandwidth and ensuring performance for the home entertainment network of the future.

Future-Proof Bandwidth

Entropic utilizes packet aggregation in the c.LINK MAC to achieve the 80% increase in net throughput on its existing c.LINK platform.

"Packet aggregation increases the MAC layer throughput of the coaxial network by combining packets headed to a common destination," said John Graham, vice president of marketing at Entropic. "This improves overall efficiency of the MAC, which in turn improves performance dramatically."

The increased net throughput of the network allows operators to "future-proof" their deployments by building in the bandwidth today that will be needed to support future advanced services enabled by fiber to the home architecture. In addition, extra bandwidth provides headroom for personal content to safely coexist with operator services on the entertainment network when coupled with Entropic's recently announced parameterized QoS feature.

"This additional software solidifies c.LINK's position as a fast, lowest cost, highly reliable, proven and well-managed entertainment network choice for operator deployments," added Graham.

Expanded Device Support

The new software also supports additional network nodes. As coaxial home networks for broadband entertainment include more devices such as TVs, PCs, gaming devices and tuners, the coaxial network needs to be able to manage them. Now, Entropic chipsets can support up to 16 separate devices in one home network backbone, ensuring network support for the connected home of today and tomorrow.

Availability

Packet aggregation and sixteen-node support is available today in Entropic's c.LINK EN2210 chipset.
