About the Author

Dr. Joseph Abrahams is a psychoanalyst who has pioneered in the use of groups to change people and institutions. That bent stemmed from an early interest in changing society itself, towards democracy.

He started political action on the East Coast in the mid-60's, while in psychoanalytic practice, as a fundraiser and in precinct work. After moving West, he plunged into grassroots activity in Southern and Central California. All the while, he kept in mind the freedom promoting ways of psychoanalysis.

In a running commentary, he tells us about the workings of his mind and methods as he engaged in politics at the grassroots. Other works: Turning Lives Around: Wartime Treatment of Military Prisoners; A Passionate Psychoanalyst: Poems and Dreams; The Messianic Imperative: Scourge or Savior?
