Highwinds Deploys High-Performance Foundry NetIron XMR Series Backbone Routers to Enhance Content Delivery

Foundry Routers Bolster the Rapid Growth of Highwinds' Robust Global Network Infrastructure

WINTER PARK, Fla. and SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 10, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Highwinds Network Group, Inc., a global provider of content distribution solutions, today announced that it has selected award-winning NetIron(r) XMR 16000 backbone routers from Foundry Networks, Inc.(r) (Nasdaq:FDRY), a performance and total solutions leader for end-to-end switching and routing. The selection and rollout of the Foundry routers -- which facilitate rapid growth by providing high levels of scalability, performance and availability -- is firmly rooted in Highwinds' strategy to expand its worldwide network infrastructure and position the company as a leading provider of best-in-class content delivery solutions.

There are currently 12 NetIron XMR 16000 routers in operation in eight cities -- Amsterdam, Ashburn, Va., Atlanta, Chicago, London, Los Angeles, New York and Phoenix -- as part of the Highwinds RollingThunder(tm) network, which serves as the backbone of the company's Content Delivery Network (CDN) infrastructure. Additional Foundry routers will be deployed in line with Highwinds' sustained network growth and global expansion efforts.

"Foundry has a proven track record in innovating high-performance networking solutions, and their NetIron product family provides unmatched reliability and scalability for network routing and switching," said Steve Miller, president of Highwinds. "The company's technological leadership, coupled with their extensive experience in content delivery environments, made them the obvious choice for our network upgrade and expansion. We are confident that Foundry's NetIron XMR Series routers will support our existing customer base and provide us plenty of room for expansion."

Highwinds chose the NetIron XMR Series because of its support for high-density 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) connections and the ability to scale to even greater link capacities through its terabit-scale architecture. The NetIron XMR Series routers enable Highwinds to leverage the full capabilities of its MPLS-based backbone with Quality of Service (QoS) control mechanisms, allowing for fast routing of traffic and fine-grained traffic control for multiple classes of content. The control, flexibility and scalability delivered through the NetIron XMR routers ensure high-quality bandwidth for Highwinds' entire customer base.

The Foundry equipment leverages the sFlow(r) technology embedded in all of Foundry's switches and routers, which provides for network visibility, security and integrity through extensive packet sampling and network monitoring tools without the cost of additional security sensors. These integral tools provide meaningful statistics about the flow of data between the Highwinds network and distant networks. Highwinds leverages these features using its own Teleflow software to determine optimum peering strategies as it continues to expand its network through interconnects with partners in the United States, Europe and beyond.
