Finnair scheduled traffic, measured in passenger kilometers, increased by 26.5% compared to June last year. The growth was derived from Asian traffic, which grew in June by 35.4%, as well as from European traffic, where demand exceeded last year's figure by 27.9%. At the beginning of June, Finnair launched a new Airbus A340 aircraft in Asian traffic. Another Airbus began operating at the end of June. The passenger load factor in scheduled traffic was on last year's level at 75.4%. The nearly five per cent decrease in the passenger load factor for Asian traffic was caused by significant a capacity increase on Indian routes. The load factor was still on decent level at 76 per cent. The load factor on domestic routes improved by nearly nine percent and was over 63 percent. The total number of passengers carried in scheduled traffic was 725 292, up 6.4%. Average revenue per passenger kilometer in Finnair scheduled traffic is expected to decline three per cent during the second quarter. The interim report will be released on 9 August 2007. Finnair Group total traffic increased by 18.0% in June, while capacity was up by 21.3%. The passenger load factor was thus 76.6% or 2.2 points lower than last year. All Finnair Group airlines altogether transported 848 861 passengers, which is 3.9% more than a year ago. Finnair's Tallinn-based subsidiary Aero AS, carried 29 067 passengers (- 58.9%) on routes between Helsinki and the Baltic capitals and within Southern Finland. During June, Stockholm-based FlyNordic carried 111 855 passengers (+ 1.7%). Aero and FlyNordic figures are respectively included in Finnair Group total figures. FlyNordic was sold to Norwegian Air Shuttle on 30 June 2007 and its traffic performance is no longer reported as part of Finnair Group statistics. Arrival punctuality of scheduled flights was 81.8% (based on a fifteen minute standard), 5.1 points lower than in January 2006. Including leisure flights arrival punctuality was 79.6% (-5.4 p.p). Scheduled traffic In scheduled traffic (international + domestic) revenue passenger kilometres increased by 26.5%. The change in capacity was 27.8%. Passenger load factor was 75.4%, 0.8 percentage points lower than last year. In scheduled international traffic, total number of passengers was up by 14.9%. Capacity in ASKs was 32.8%, while RPKs increased by 29.1%. In European scheduled traffic, ASKs increased by 26.5%, and as RPKs increased by 27.9%, the passenger load factor was 75.5%, up 0.9 points from previous year. In North Atlantic scheduled traffic, capacity increased by 10.4%. Change in RPKs was + 1.6%, and passenger load factor for June was 81.9%, 7.2 points lower than previous year. In Asian scheduled traffic, capacity increase was 43.8%. The passenger traffic was up by 35.4%. Passenger load factor was 75.9%, 4.7 percentage points down. Domestic scheduled traffic decreased by 14.7% on a capacity decrease of 26.6%. Passenger load factor increased by 8.8 percentage points to 63.1%. Leisure traffic ASKs for leisure traffic decreased in June by 2.4%, and RPKs decreased by 8.9%, resulting in a passenger load factor of 82.4%, 5.8 points lower than last year. Cargo Cargo traffic increased by 3.5% in terms of cargo tonnes carried. Growth in scheduled traffic was 2.3%. The increase in Asian traffic was 15.2%. Capacity grew by 30 percent. Weaker development in cargo demand is due to strong over-capacity in the northern European cargo market. Volume in European traffic decreased by 9.0%. In North-Atlantic traffic, cargo volume decreased by 23.5%. Cargo traffic carried on chartered cargo flights increased by 13.0%. The cargo load factor was 36.2 %. The cargo load factor in the Far Eastern traffic was 41.5% and in the North Atlantic traffic 60.8 %. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Jun07 |
