Mayer Leaves Steptoe for Liner and Helps Form a Premier Products Liability Practice Group

LOS ANGELES, July 11, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Kevin C. Mayer, formerly a Partner of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, will join Liner Yankelevitz Sunshine & Regenstreif, LLP's Los Angeles office as Partner on July 16, 2007.

As LYS&R continues to grow, it has made building its products liability and environmental torts group a priority. Kevin C. Mayer is a civil trial attorney whose practice focuses on complex commercial, mass tort, toxic tort, OSHA, environmental and products liability litigation. He has represented numerous clients in the oil and chemical, consumer products, insurance, entertainment, construction, fashion and financial industries in a variety of federal and state courts and administrative agencies, and in business negotiations.

"Kevin is one of the true stars of the products liability and environmental tort bar, who comes with substantial jury trial experience adding to our diverse and tenacious top tier trial lawyers. He joins our expanding products liability and environmental torts group, which is now 20 lawyers strong and based both in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He will join a very busy group of trial lawyers in courtrooms up and down the State and in other states across the U.S. This, coupled with the almost explosive growth of our corporate group and other vibrant full service practice areas, leaves us and a very loyal and cherished client base quite excited," said Stuart Liner.

With over 22 years of legal experience, Kevin has an impressive roster of clients and trial successes under his belt. Most recently, he was designated as one of the "Best Lawyers in America" and a "Southern California Super Lawyer." He was also a 2006 recipient of the Burton Award for Legal Achievement.

Kevin's successes are reflected in his representation of crude oil refiners and the manufacturers of commercial and consumer-grade chemical products in personal injury, wrongful death and regulatory litigation, trials and administrative proceedings. He handles civil and administrative law trials and appeals for industrial and commercial clients' alleged violations of Cal-OSHA and the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 ("Proposition 65"). Kevin has also represented national architectural and engineering firms, and facility owners and operators, in professional negligence, premises liability and personal injury actions for alleged design, manufacturing and warning defects in office buildings, theaters, athletic facilities and stadiums, and residential properties.

Kevin was put to the true test of experience when he co-tried the first metal-working fluid/cancer case in the United States, and was co-trial counsel for multiple chemical manufacturers and distributors in the Lockheed Litigation Coordinated Proceedings in Los Angeles. He also served as a coordinating counsel for numerous product manufacturers and distributors in the New York, Minnesota and California IBM Worker Litigation, addressing personal injury and wrongful death claims from cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive consequences. Most recently, he served as a national coordinating and trial counsel for a major American company accused of conspiring to conceal the workplace health hazards of various industrial materials. Kevin is the author of "Challenges to Plaintiff's Experts in Toxic Tort Cases: De-Bunking the Junk in Medical Causation Opinions," which was published in the DRI Defense Library Series for 2007. Kevin received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley.

Recently, the Los Angeles office of LYS&R also welcomed attorneys Michelle Moebius, Symeon K. Davis, Michael Johnson, Emily K. Ayers, Ryan Lapine, Robert Oliver and Marsha Dungog.
