Leonard's appointment follows the successful restructuring of the Northrop Grumman and Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE:SAI) joint venture, AMSEC LLC, which divided the company along customer and product lines. AMSEC is a full-service provider of engineering, logistics and technical support services primarily to Navy ship programs and is now a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman's Newport News sector. Leonard will also serve as president of the AMSEC subsidiary.

In his new role, Leonard is responsible for all aspects of AMSEC's daily operations, which includes approximately 2,400 employees in more than 22 locations worldwide. He reports to Irwin F. Edenzon, vice president of technology development and fleet support for Northrop Grumman's Newport News sector.

"Harris has been a major factor in AMSEC's growth over the past eight years," said Edenzon. "His focus on customer requirements and meeting commitments is the right combination of leadership skills for the job."

Prior to his promotion, Leonard served as AMSEC's acting director of operations and was responsible for AMSEC's daily operations. Previously, he was senior vice president and business area manager for the logistics and engineering services operation of AMSEC.

Leonard joined Northrop Grumman's Newport News sector in 1985 as an engineer and has been progressively promoted into various management positions. He served as a manager for the company's Asheville Industries and Washington, D.C. engineering office and as director of the life cycle engineering department. In June 1999, Leonard and the life cycle engineering department joined AMSEC LLC when the business partnership between Science Applications International Corporation and Newport News was formed.

Leonard served in the United States Navy Nuclear Power Program on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) and USS James Madison (SSBN-627). He retired as a Naval Reserve Officer in 1997. He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson University.

Northrop Grumman Corporation is a $30 billion global defense and technology company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in information and services, electronics, aerospace and shipbuilding to government and commercial customers worldwide.
