An Educational Field Trip -- Tucson Author Whisks Readers Through Time in Lesson-Filled Children's Book

TUCSON, Ariz., July 20, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Young readers looking for a unique book combining the elements of whimsical fantasy, historical fiction, and lesson-filled entertainment just might find what they are looking for a in a newly released juvenile fiction slated to hit the bookstores this week. In Freddy and His Magic Bath Mat (Paperback, $10.00, Xlibris Publishing), author A.V. Scrivner presents an unforgettable tale about love, family, and life, told through the story of a young boy with a very special bath mat.

It is the story of Freddy Rivas, an only child who hates being lonely. His father has a high-powered job in the corporate world, and with the type of money he makes, the family lives in the best places where there are few children and pets are not allowed - making Freddy a lonely, sad boy. School days are wonderful but the weekends are miserable. He escapes by dreaming that his bath mat is a magic flying carpet that takes him to places and eras in the past that he reads about at school. But when his dad loses his job because of a huge corporate fiasco, Freddy is forced to confront reality and learns a valuable lesson about life.

In Freddy and His Magic Bath Mat, the readers will not only be treated to an entertaining, lesson-filled story but also a fascinating, educational look at four centuries of American history, back-tracking from the 21st century to the 17th, through the eyes of a young soul. "Love of history is a large part of my life and I include it at every opportunity in my writings," says Scrivner, who adds that the tale also acts as a social commentary on modern American society. "At the same time, family life must be revered, or else American society will have the same fate as the Shaker Society."

About the Author

As far back as her memory serves her, A.V. Scrivner loved to watch sunsets and listen to music. Then came the passion for languages and history. She can no longer enjoy sunsets, having lost her eyesight in 1991, but her other loves remain strong. After she stopped teaching high school English, she published two books on English grammar and usage. Her history book, Valiant Southwest, was the only work written before she became blind. All other works, published and unpublished, have been written without the benefit of eyesight.
