TASER Device Ends Suicide Threat, Used to Arrest Robber

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices released the following News Alert:

According to reports from the Edmonton Sun, an off-duty officer spotted and arrested a suspected serial robber Saturday afternoon after the suspect threatened to commit suicide. Staff Sgt. Brad MacDonald noticed an individual with a description matching that of a man wanted for over 10 robberies near 99 Street and 38 Avenue around 3:30 p.m. The suspect held a knife to his throat and refused to surrender himself to police. After an hour of negotiations failed to resolve the situation, officers deployed a TASER electronic control device to subdue the man for arrest.

"He was armed, growing increasingly despondent, and there was a shopping mall nearby. The decision for tactical intervention ensured the suspect's safety as well as that of others," MacDonald said.

The suspect has been charged with a sting of robberies. Authorities plan to release more details on the man this week.
