Duckwall-ALCO Stores Reports July Sales Increase of 6.9 Percent

Same-Store Sales for July Increase 5.2 Percent


ABILENE, Kan., Aug. 9, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Duckwall-ALCO Stores, Inc. (Nasdaq:DUCK) today announced that its sales from continuing operations for the four weeks ended July 29, 2007 (fiscal month of July) increased 6.9% to $35.3 million compared to $33.1 million in the prior-year month, and same-store sales increased 5.2%.

Sales for the second quarter increased 4.0% to $124.4 million compared to $119.6 million during the same period last year. Same-stores sales increased 2.1%.

Excluding fuel sales, merchandise only same-store sales increased 5.4% for the period and 2.6% year to date.
