Tricorona announces climate neutralisation of Volvo s ethanol cars

* Volvo Cars Sweden announced today the launch of a new initiative
to provide climate neutralisation for its range of Flexifuel cars
powered by ethanol E85, a fuel that come primarily from renewable
    sources.
  * Under the initiative, the climate impact of the fossil fuel
components of E85 will be offset by Tricorona Climate Partner,
using Gold Standard carbon reduction projects that are
UN-certified, under the CDM process within the Kyoto Protocol.

Volvo provides 3 years of climate neutral driving with every purchase
of a flexifuel car.

Volvo has calculated the climate impact from a typical driver, for
each of its Flexifuel models, under a three-year period based on
Ethanol E85. For every purchase of a new Flexifuel car, Tricorona
Climate Partner will offset this climate impact through renewable
energy projects.

The projects are certified under the Clean Development Mechanism of
the Kyoto Protocol, within a process monitored by the United Nations.
The projects are also certified against the Gold Standard, a
voluntary standard for carbon reduction projects that has been
developed by a range of over 40 international NGOs including WWF
International, and internationally recognised as best practice for
carbon reduction projects."Volvo wants to reward its customers that choose greener cars, and
actively help them minimise their environmental impact. We regard
climate neutral driving as a complement to our other initiatives in
this area, and we needed a trustworthy partner who understood our
requirements for excellent quality carbon projects. That's why we
chose Gold Standard projects from Tricorona," says Anders Wahlén,
Head of Environmental Affairs at Volvo Cars Sweden.

By investing in renewable energy, these projects contribute to
reducing global dependence on fossil fuels. Because the projects are
certified under the Kyoto Protocol and Gold Standard, Volvo's
customers are guaranteed carbon emissions reductions that take full
account of sustainable development in the host country."There is a growing awareness of carbon offsetting as a mechanism for
addressing climate change, but it needs to be done correctly." says
Per Egstam, Head of Climate Neutralisation at Tricorona. "By
measuring climate impact conservatively, and using only projects that
are certified under the Kyoto Protocol and the Gold Standard, we can
offer the market a climate neutralisation service of the highest
quality."

Tricorona Climate Partner offers its customers a complete package of
climate-related services, including climate audits, advice on
abatement measures and offsetting with high quality, certified
projects.
