DATAllegro Releases New Data Warehouse Appliance for Low Cost, Online Archiving of Data

200 Terabytes of Data Available Online in a Single Rack for Less Than $8,000 Per Terabyte

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 21, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- TDWI -- DATAllegro(tm), supplier of the most advanced data warehouse appliance on an enterprise-class platform, today announced the launch of a new online archive data warehouse (DW) appliance. Starting at less than $8,000 per terabyte, the new online archive appliance can hold petabytes of historical data online and accessible for querying with a very small data center footprint. The new online archive appliance is available in a standard option or as grid-enabled to work within a multi-temperature or hub-and-spoke architecture. For more information on DATAllegro's grid-enabled DW appliances, see the additional press release, also distributed today.

The new product is part of DATAllegro's MRA product line, which is based on its v3 enterprise-class platform. DATAllegro v3 uses standard Dell(tm) servers, EMC(r) storage and Cisco switches for superior reliability and performance. Each appliance within the MRA product line requires a single control rack and one or more data racks. DATAllegro's new online archive rack (DATAllegro DR200) can be linked to a standard control rack or a grid-enabled control rack to make a complete appliance.

"Some data is used constantly. Other data is queried rarely," said Curt Monash, President of Monash Information Services and author of the influential blog DBMS2. "It makes sense to store different parts of your data warehouse on systems with different price/performance tradeoffs."

"Our new archive appliances are another example of how our v3 platform is able to keep us ahead of the competition," said Stuart Frost, CEO of DATAllegro. "By using an enterprise-class platform based on Dell servers, EMC storage and Cisco switches, we are able to add innovations to our product at a much faster rate than competitors with proprietary platforms."

Each DR200 archive rack can hold 200 terabytes of data and multiple DR200s can be linked to the same control rack to provide petabytes of storage. When used with a grid-enabled control rack, customers can utilize a multi-temperature architecture by keeping the most recent "hot" data on a DATAllegro high-performance appliance and older "cooler" data on an archive appliance.

DATAllegro already has a customer that has purchased a grid-enabled archive appliance, which is being deployed in September of 2007. In addition to meeting compliance requirements, the customer is using the archive appliance to analyze historical data for fraud detection and revenue assurance.

"Companies today face increasing pressure to keep more and more data online. Some are required to in order to meet regulatory and compliance standards while others are looking to analyze more data to obtain a competitive advantage," said John Devolites, General Manager, TEOCO. "Most attempt to solve the problem by adding capacity to their traditional data warehouses, an expensive undertaking that negatively impacts query performance. With DATAllegro's new online archiving appliances, customers now have a cost-effective solution for archiving aging data and keeping it online, without compromising the performance of their main data warehouse."

Additional benefits offered by the online archive appliance include:

 * Superior reliability provided by DATAllegro v3's commodity-based
architecture, which includes Dell servers, EMC storage and Cisco
   switches
 * Optional encryption technology that can encrypt the entirety of the
   archived data at rest
 * Small data center footprint (200 terabytes in a single rack)
 * Reasonable performance (acceptable for less frequent queries)
 * Very low price (less than $8,000 per terabyte for a 200 TB system)
