SAN DIEGO, Aug. 23, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- On August 22 2007, the Superior Court for the State of Arizona, Maricopa County (Case No. CV2006-017963), extended the deadline for former Phelps Dodge shareholders to object or opt out of the class action settlement from July 16 to September 1, 2007. The Court preliminarily approved the terms of the settlement on May 21, 2007, and notice thereof subsequently was provided to class members. The final approval hearing will be held on September 10, 2007. The case relates to the sale of Phelps Dodge to Freeport-McMoran earlier this year. The Court extended the deadline at the parties' request, in order to provide class members with additional time to consider the terms of the proposed settlement.
