FINNAIR PLC STOCK EXCHANGE ANNOUNCEMENT 18 SEPTEMBER 2007 ATR AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE COMPANY ESTABLISHED IN FINLAND ATR turboprop aircraft maintenance is being developed in Finland. Finnair and Finncomm Airlines have launched a venture to form an ATR aircraft maintenance company, Finnish Aircraft Maintenance (FAM). The joint company would be located in the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport area. The target is to begin operating at the change of the year. “The goal of the company is to produce high-quality maintenance to both domestic and foreign airlines operating ATRs,” says Finnair Technical Division SVP Kimmo Soini. “We want to ensure the development and continuation of ATR aircraft maintenance in Finland. ATR sales have reached record levels during the past three years, and the need for maintenance for this type of aircraft is increasing in the surrounding areas in coming years. The company's target is to be an answer to this challenge of growing demand,” says Finncomm Airlines Managing Director Juhani Pakari. Finnair's ATR fleet is growing smaller while Finncomm Airlines is taking delivery of a further five ATR 72-500 aircraft by January 2009, adding to its current fleet of six ATRs. The reorganisation of ATR aircraft maintenance will not decrease the demand for personnel at Finnair Technical Division. The Finncomm maintenance organisation will transfer to Finnish Aircraft Maintenance. The maintenance of ATR landing gear and engines will continue at Finnair Technical Division, in cooperation with FAM. Finnish Commuter (Finncomm) Airlines is a private Finnish airline founded in 1993 with a staff of just over 200. The airline has been cooperating with Finnair since 1998. In addition to its ATR fleet, the company operates two Embraer 145 jet aircraft. Of Finnair Technical Services' 200 million euro turnover, approximately one third comes from maintenance contracts with third-party customers. Finnair has Boeing MD-11 and DC-10 maintenance agreements with, for instance, Aeroflot Cargo, Martinair and KLM-Air France.
