ABILENE, Kan., Sept. 26, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Duckwall-ALCO Stores, Inc. (Nasdaq:DUCK) hosted more than 200 vendors, suppliers and business partners at its annual Vendor Appreciation Dinner held yesterday, September 25, in Kansas City. The Company, which currently has 252 stores in 21 states, is headquartered in Abilene, Kan.
Prior to the Tuesday evening dinner, attendees toured the new ALCO store set to open on September 27, in Louisburg, Kan. Louisburg is located just south of Overland Park, Kan., a rapidly growing suburb of Kansas City. The new store sports a fresh color scheme as well as many new environmentally friendly initiatives.
The Louisburg store is the first of 14 new ALCO stores set to open this fall that will incorporate the Company's new colors and new prototype features. The new stores are somewhat less expensive to build and considerably less expensive to operate. Plus, each completed building will be nearly 100 percent recyclable.
Following the dinner, Duckwall-ALCO's senior management team updated attendees on the progress of a number of corporate initiatives and addressed the Company's plans for growth.
