Keller Rohrback L.L.P. Investigates Crib Recall by Simplicity, Inc.

SEATTLE, Sept. 26, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Keller Rohrback L.L.P. (www.krclassaction.com) today announced that it has launched an investigation into the recent crib recall by Simplicity Inc. ("Simplicity" or the "Company"). Simplicity, which is headquartered in Reading, Pennsylvania, manufactured the recalled cribs that were sold nationwide under the brand names of Simplicity or Graco between January 1998 and May 2007.

On September 21, 2007, Simplicity announced the recall of approximately 1 million cribs because of faulty hardware and crib design which allows the drop side of the cribs to fall, resulting in a gap which can lead to the suffocation of children. Additionally, the Aspen 3 in 1 model contained incorrectly sized wood screws. For the cribs which were shipped with the wrong size wood screws, the screws can back out causing the mattress support to fall, leading to a suffocation hazard. Three babies have reportedly become entrapped in their cribs and died of suffocation in Simplicity cribs. Seven other babies were entrapped but survived. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have also been 55 reports of the cribs' drop sides detaching or the hardware failing.

Attorneys Lynn Lincoln Sarko and Gretchen Freeman Cappio call for Simplicity and the Consumer Products Safety Commission to ensure that products of this type are safe for children and that recalls are issued in a timely manner. According to Mr. Sarko: "The safety of cribs leaves no margin for error. By definition, children are intended to be left alone in their cribs. Parents are justifiably shocked and enraged to learn that it has taken two and a half years after a child's death in a Simplicity crib before these hazardous cribs have finally been recalled."

Ms. Cappio adds: "When manufacturers put cribs on the market, safety has to be a top priority. However, we are seeing evidence that Simplicity may have endangered the lives of many children by not recalling its cribs in a timely manner, even though it has known since at least 2005 that its cribs were unsafe."

The recall involves various models. For more information about which Simplicity cribs have been recalled, see: http://www.simplicityforchildren.com/index.htm and http://www.cpsc.gov/.
