Airspan Networks and Starent Networks Extend Relationship for "Open R3-R4-R6" WiMAX Reference Interfaces
Airspan Introduces AN1 Access Service Network Gateway Powered by Starent Technology
| Source: Airspan Networks Inc.
CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - September 27, 2007) - WiMAX World USA 2007 -- Airspan Networks Inc.
(NASDAQ : AIRN ), a leading worldwide provider of WiMAX and Wi-Fi based
broadband wireless access networks today announced an expansion of their
relationship with Starent Networks, Corp. to deliver high performance
infrastructure solutions for open, interoperable Mobile WiMAX networks.
This relationship will expand Airspan's Mobile WiMAX offering by
interconnecting its Mobile base stations to Starent's Access Service
Network Gateway (ASN-GW) using profile "C" and open R6 interfaces. This
combination will enable carriers to design best-of-breed, standards-based,
multi-vendor Mobile WiMAX networks. In addition, Airspan will be able to
leverage Starent's Mobile IP experience by integrating its Home Agent,
which supports an open R3 interface and has been validated by many key
infrastructure vendors as a high performance, multi-technology Mobile WiMAX
CSN solution.
Airspan will have the ability to resell Starent WiMAX products to offer an
end-to-end Mobile WiMAX solution for its customers.
Eric Stonestrom, Airspan's CEO, said, "The essence of WiMAX is openness and
interoperability. Working with Starent enables Airspan to deliver a 'Best
of Breed' solution, combining our class-leading Mobile WiMAX base stations
with Starent's high performance, high functionality WiMAX core networking
products. This is achieved by each company's commitment to Profile 'C' and
open 'R3,' 'R4' and 'R6' interfaces, which are the keys to unlocking the
power of the WiMAX eco-system."
"We are focused on providing innovative solutions that meet the
requirements of Mobile WiMAX operators and their subscribers. Airspan
shares that commitment which makes for a productive relationship," said
Ashraf Dahod, CEO of Starent. "Starent has deployed advanced 3G wireless
services in the CDMA2000 and UMTS markets and is leveraging this experience
in Mobile WiMAX networks."
Airspan also launched the scaleable, distributed "AN1" ASN-GW, designed for
smaller networks and for distributed
ASN-GW deployments. The AN1 is an Airspan platform, powered by Starent
technology. The AN1 enables the ASN-GW component of a Mobile WiMAX network
to be right-sized for smaller deployments while providing carriers the
option to scale to the Starent ST16 and ST40 platforms for a smooth
migration path as their network grows and allowing carriers to leverage
their initial investment.
Airspan and Starent Networks are demonstrating their respective products at
the WiMAX World tradeshow, held in Chicago from September 25 to 27th, 2007.
