Duckwall-ALCO Stores Reports September Sales Increase of 2.2 Percent

Same-Store Sales Flat for September


ABILENE, Kan., Oct. 11, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Duckwall-ALCO Stores, Inc. (Nasdaq:DUCK) today announced that its sales from continuing operations for the five weeks ended September 30, 2007 (fiscal month of September) increased approximately 2.2% to $42.0 million compared to $41.1 million in the prior-year month, and same-store sales were flat with and without fuel sales.

Sales year-to-date increased 3.8% to $312.9 million compared to $301.4 million in the prior year and same-store sales increased 1.9%.

The Company's September sales were adversely affected by the shift of its Anniversary Sale week from September last year to October this year.
