NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Oct. 17, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a contract option by the U.S. Navy to provide planning and design services for standard Navy valves being installed in commissioned nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines.

Northrop Grumman's Newport News sector, the nation's sole designer, builder and refueler of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and one of only two companies capable of designing and building nuclear-powered submarines, is the prime contractor for the work, which is valued at $5.7 million. The sector's standard Navy valve yard is responsible for developing and maintaining valve designs, technical manuals and logistics information.

This contract option continues work originally awarded in 2006. There are three additional one-year funding options that could also be awarded to extend the contract through 2011. The total estimated value of the contract is $37.6 million.
