Washington Banking Company Declares Quarterly Cash Dividend


OAK HARBOR, Wash., Oct. 25, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Washington Banking Company (Nasdaq:WBCO), the holding company for Whidbey Island Bank, announced today that its Board of Directors has declared a cash dividend of $0.06 per common share. The dividend will be paid November 28, to shareholders of record on November 9, 2007. Washington Banking has paid a quarterly cash dividend since its 1998 initial public offering, and has increased the cash payout each year.

Earlier this week, Washington Banking announced 2007 third quarter results. Net income for the quarter increased 7% year-over-year and 15% from the preceding quarter. For the quarter ended September 30, 2007, net income was $2.8 million, or $0.30 per diluted share, compared to $2.5 million, or $0.26 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2007, and $2.6 million, or $0.28 per diluted share, in the third quarter of 2006.

On September 26, 2007, the company announced the signing of a definitive agreement for a merger with, and into, Frontier Financial Corporation (Nasdaq:FTBK). The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2008, pending Washington Banking shareholder approval, regulatory approvals and satisfaction of other customary closing conditions.
