Experience a Wonderful Look At the Stars With First Star I See Tonight -- New Book is a Unique Approach to Astronomy and Science Through Prose, Poetry and Art

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 26, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The stars that light up the sky at night are eternal wonders that truly deserve our praise and attention. Prepare yourself for an unforgettable exploration of the wonder of the night sky through author Robert Eklund's poetry and prose with the release of his new book, First Star I See Tonight.

The text is an intimate adventure with the sky and stars. Unifying science and poetic insight, this unique combination of prose, poetry and art invites the reader to explore -- in the company of an astronomer, poet and artist -- a night of wonder under the stars. The volume can be thought of an excursion into the earth's own shadow, from nightfall to dawn, including a liftoff into outer space and a perspective on the delights of our home planet. It includes a Foreword by the celebrated comet discoverer and author David H. Levy and is structured in seven chapters: Twilight Zone, Moonglow, Deep Sky, Orion and Friends, Reaching Out, The Home Planet, and Good Night.

Richly layered and inspiring, First Star I See Tonight bridges the gap that divides the sciences from the arts and humanities as it emphasizes how the astrophysicist's "space" and the artist's "sky" can be understood and appreciated at the same time. Written for young and adult readers alike, this book will give you an engaging reading experience. Order a copy of First Star I See Tonight at your local bookstore or online at Xlibris.com today.

About the Author

Robert L. Eklund is a third-generation communicator of the love of starry skies. His grandfather, George C. Blakslee, was for many years the photographer and public lecturer for Yerkes Observatory in Williams Bay, Wisconsin. His mother, Helen Blakslee Eklund, tinted Yerkes' astronomical lantern slides with watercolors, to be sold to planetariums for use in public lectures, before color photography was invented. Raised among astronomers on the Yerkes Observatory grounds, he now writes about science and technology and helps with education and public outreach at the Mount Wilson Observatory near Pasadena, California. He also writes a weekly column, "Looking Up" in the Sierra Madre, California-based newspaper MountainViews-Observer, and offers writing and editing services to the business and scientific communities.
