Techwell Helps DVR, Video Server and DVR PCI Card Product Makers Reduce Costs, Footprint and Power Consumption With New Security Surveillance IC

The TW2864 Features Built-In Audio Codec, Adaptive 4H Comb Filters for All NTSC/PAL Standards and Support for ITU-R BT.656 Format or Time Multiplexed Output With 54MHz or 108MHz Clock

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 31, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Techwell, Inc., (Nasdaq:TWLL), the market leader in security surveillance integrated circuit (IC) solutions, today announced its 4th generation 4-in-1 video decoder and audio codec for security surveillance applications. The TW2864 dramatically reduces the number of ICs and simplifies board-level routing as required to generate higher quality images at lower power consumption for next generation embedded DVR, video server, and DVR PCI Card products.

The TW2864 includes four high quality NTSC/PAL video decoders that convert analog composite video signal to digital component YCbCr data. The device contains four 10-bit ADCs and proprietary clamp and gain controllers and utilizes adaptive 4H comb filter for separating luminance and chrominance to reduce cross noise artifacts. The new IC adopts the image enhancement techniques such as IF compensation filter, CTI and programmable peaking. The TW2864 also includes an audio codec which has four audio ADCs and one audio DAC. A built-in audio controller can generate digital outputs for recording/mixing and accepts digital input for playback.

Compared to previous generation video decoder products, the TW2864 adds a host of new and first-to-market features:

    * Improved adaptive 4H comb filters for all NTSC and PAL
      standards
    * 4-channel D1 time division multiplexed output at 108MHz clock
    * PCM 8/16-bit and u-Law/A-Law 8-bit for audio word length
    * Programmable audio sample rates: 8, 16, 32, 44.1 and 48kHz
    * Video field locked audio sample support
    * Audio master/slave I2S interface for playback and record

"With the consolidation of many great capabilities onto a single IC, we've taken a leap ahead with this new product, one that we hope will help our security surveillance customers further innovate their products for their customers," said Hiro Kozato, President and Chief Executive Officer of Techwell, Inc. "We are making our best effort to map our products ahead of the market transition so that our customers can better meet their long term business objectives."
