MCLEAN, Va., Nov. 1, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a follow-on contract to provide operations support, resources and materials to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Center for Excellence. The center aims to educate women and communities on the prevention of alcohol-related birth defects, and to improve the quality of life among individuals with a FASD.
Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector will operate the SAMHSA FASD Center for Excellence and provide FASD training and technical assistance, Web site and database development and maintenance, call center operations, public information materials, and curriculum development for FASD programs. The center will advance SAMHSA's science-to-service agenda by identifying and disseminating evidence-based practices in FASD treatment and prevention that demonstrate applied quantitative, scientific research methodology, and meet the criteria for efficacy.

The contract is valued at $47.9 million to Northrop Grumman. Work on the contract will be conducted over one year with four, one-year options in Rockville, Md.
Northrop Grumman was awarded the original SAMHSA FASD Center for Excellence contract in 2002.
Northrop Grumman's teammates on the contract include Native American Management Services, Reston, Va.; Human Services Research Institute, Cambridge, Mass.; and the National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Washington, D.C.
