Microsemi to Demo Full Range of PowerDsine Power-Over-Ethernet Midspans At Interop Show in Berlin

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 5, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC) will display a full range of PowerDsine(r) midspans at the Interop Show in Berlin, November 6-8. Microsemi is a leading manufacturer of PowerDsine power-over-Ethernet systems and integrated circuits as well as high performance analog mixed signal integrated circuits and high reliability semiconductors.

At Interop Berlin 2007, Microsemi will be introducing new PoE midspans and integrated solutions that supply operating power via Ethernet cables to voice over IP (VoIP) phones, IP-based cameras and wireless LAN access point devices. Microsemi's PoE products can reduce the time and costs associated with installation of such end-devices because the technology eliminates the need to wire additional AC outlets.

Visitors to the Microsemi exhibit will have an opportunity to learn about the company's new PD-7001G high-power 1-port gigabit power over Ethernet midspan addition to its PowerDsine product portfolio.

The PowerDsine PD-7001G is designed as an ideal solution for gigabit 802.11n access points, WiMAX CPE devices, thin clients, PTZ IP cameras and more. The single-port unit complies to the existing PoE 802.3af standard, but with double the power -- supporting a minimum of 30W at the port output.

"We answered a request made by many of our customers to provide a solution for higher power, prior to the ratification of the next generation PoE 802.3at standard," said Amit Gilboa, product line manager for PowerDsine systems. "The 30W unit gives an optimal solution to PTZ cameras, 802.11n access points, WiMAX transmitters, video phones and more. Customers can prepare for 802.3at now, and have an intermediate solution."

The PD-7001G allows a safe and cost effective solution for Ethernet end terminals. More devices can be powered via the network, thus eliminating the need to use a power supply and to install costly power outlets close to the end device.

The gigabit interface makes the PD-7001G an ideal solution for gigabit 802.11n access points, WiMAX transmitters and video phones. Its high 80% efficiency assures low temperature inside the compact case that weighs only 350 grams.

Live demonstrations of PowerDsine midspans will be available at Microsemi's Booth #A162.

About PowerDsine PoE Midspans

Microsemi designs, develops and supplies PowerDsine power-over-Ethernet midspans, systems, integrated circuits and modules that enable the implementation of power over Ethernet in local area networks, providing the capability to deliver and manage electrical power over existing data network cables.

PowerDsine midspans offer a broad range of units which are ideal for VoIP, WLAN and IP security systems in enterprises, as well as for 802.11n, WiMAX and thin client applications. Midspans add power to existing network infrastructure, providing maximum implementation flexibility and scalable deployment, while leaving network infrastructure completely unaltered. With power over Ethernet, data and power flow smoothly and safely over a single LAN cable with no interference.

PowerDsine Midspan solutions are certified for quality and reliability with all major IP communications and security manufacturers' products. Microsemi is a founding, active and contributing member of the IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at Task Forces and the Ethernet Alliance. For more information, visit http://www.microsemi.com/powerdsine.
