Finnair Group's ground handling subsidiary Northport Oy has signed an agreement to sell the entire share capital of its Swedish and Norwegian subsidiaries Finnhandling AB and Northport Norway AS to Menzies Aviation plc, subsidiary of John Menzies plc. The sale will create a slightly over five million euro one-time result improvement for Finnair Group in the last quarter of this year. Finnhandling AB provides passenger check-in and baggage handling services at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and Northport Norway AS provides the same services at Oslo's Gardemoen Airport. Finnair founded Finnhandling AB in 2002 with a light organisational structure. Northport Norway was founded under the same principle in autumn 2006. “Our business model has worked well in Stockholm. The company launched in Oslo last autumn has passed the start-up phase, but still requires input. I believe that Menzies Aviation's strong standing in the ground handling market will further develop the companies now sold. In the future, Northport will focus on developing its Helsinki-based operations,” says Northport Oy Managing Director Jukka Hämäläinen. Menzies will continue to provide the ground handling services for Finnair flights at Stockholm and Oslo airports. Menzies Aviation plc is a global ground handling company with operations at 121 airports in 25 countries. The company has approximately 500 airlines as customers.
