Pöyry has been awarded an engineering contract by the national railway company of Romania, CFR S.A., comprising design for the rehabilitation of the railway line Hungarian border - Curtici - Simeria (Pan-European Corridor IV). Pöyry's share of the contract is EUR 14 million. The PAN-European Corridor IV crosses Romania from west to east from the Hungarian border through Simeria to Constanta. The objective of rehabilitation of the 184 km long section is to enable passenger traffic on trains capable of 160 km/h speed and to ensure technical interoperability conditions with the neighbouring systems. The total investment for this project will be about EUR 600 million. Pöyry's services include feasibility studies, optimisation, detail design, and technical assistance until project completion. The assignment is Pöyry's first railway project in Romania and an important milestone in the consolidation of the company's position in the strongly growing transportation markets of Eastern Europe.
