Thistle Incident, UK North Sea

Lundin Petroleum AB (“Lundin Petroleum”) announces the details of an incident on the Thistle Alpha platform, offshore UK. Below is the Press Statement made by Petrofac Facilities Management (“Petrofac”), the duty holder of the Thistle Alpha installation.


“Petrofac, as duty holder of the Thistle Alpha installation on behalf of Lundin Britain Limited, can confirm that at 08.07 today a fire was detected in the turbine module.

Emergency procedures were implemented and all personnel called to muster stations. The fire was confirmed extinguished at 10:45 (GMT) and all 159 personnel on board are safe and well.

As a precautionary measure non essential personnel are being down-manned to the nearby Murchison and Dunlin platforms. All relevant authorities have been notified.

The Thistle Alpha installation is located approximately 523 km (325 miles) north north east of Aberdeen and comprises a steel jacket supporting a 3 deck platform, accommodation and helideck.
