The Existential Tourist -- Author David Stafford Describes the Joys of Being Struck by Wanderlust

CAPE CORAL, Fla., Nov. 29, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- If you could go anywhere in the world, at any moment in world history, where would you go? Author David Stafford's Crazy Thinks has a similar theme; it is the journey of a soul on a quest -- to see and feel the myriad of experiences offered by the world. And one can indeed spend an entire lifetime on this adventure since, as the award-winning song Moon River goes, "there's such a lot of world to see."

Stafford starts by recounting his youth in Port Clinton, Ohio, a typical small Midwestern town. It was a place where everything seemed to be in its place -- almost as if predestined -- and there wasn't much room for change and excitement. Wanting to see more of the world and experience the vicissitudes of life, he joined the U.S. Navy and the Merchant Marines. After university, he got his chance and the small town boy from Ohio managed to live in exotic places such as the Arabian Peninsula, the Indian subcontinent, the Pacific Rim, the Caribbean Basin, and other places before retiring in 2004.

Akin to a roadmap -- with very interesting commentary -- of the author's life, Crazy Thinks for the most part includes thoughtful musings on the meaning of one's existence and choices. The places we want to go to, the things we want to do -- maybe to see the Indy 500 race, or dare to go on a skydive, or perhaps visit the wonders of Egypt. These are merely external things, are they not? Or do they truly define those who desire them? One thing is for sure: this collection of stories, anecdotes, and prose will make you wonder -- and perhaps wander -- and warns you against overlooking the many opportunities to enjoy this journey we call life.

About the Author

Struck with wanderlust, David Stafford gravitated towards the U.S. Navy and the Merchant Marines. He eventually decided on a more settled endeavor and studied at Ohio State University. Following a brief stint as a high school teacher, he landed his "job of jobs" with Waste Management where assignments took him to Saudi Arabia, India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. He retired after twenty-nine years of service and currently lives with a good woman and an old dog in Southwest Florida.
