Canyon Acres' 'Cookie Moms' Honored by Association of Fundraising Professionals

Cookie Moms Named Outstanding Philanthropic Group At National Philanthropy Day Luncheon

ANAHEIM HILLS, Calif., Dec. 10, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Canyon Acres Children and Family services, a charity organization committed to providing homes, care, treatment and supportive services for abused, neglected and emotionally troubled children and their families, today congratulated its Cookie Moms for being named Outstanding Philanthropic Group by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). Canyon Acres' Cookie Moms received the award at AFP's annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon at the Anaheim Marriot hotel on November 13th. Over 1000 people attended this premier event.

"Our children are very lucky to have a group like the Cookie Moms in their lives," said Clete Menke, executive director of Canyon Acres. "For more than 4 years, the Cookie Moms have been baking with the children and making the Ranch feel even more like a natural home. We are very thankful to have such a warm, devoted group as part of the Canyon Acres family."

National Philanthropy Day honors the people, companies and non-profits who dedicate their lives to making the world a better place. Each year, AFP honors individuals and groups who, through their hard work and dedication, have enhanced philanthropy, their community, and the world. The Cookie Moms, a group of 11 women who come to Canyon Acres' Ranch Residential Treatment Center twice a month, were honored as Outstanding Philanthropic Group because of what they do to improve the lives of Canyon Acres' children. During visits, the Moms teach the children how to bake; they also help children with their homework and provide guidance and emotional support, reinforcing the basic principals Canyon Acres strives to impart to children.

The Canyon Acres Cookie Moms are: Founder Carol Hanes, Mary Lu Twill, Monica Roblee, Trish McCarthy, Jackie Warner, Shirley Cordell, Gayle Conejo, Valerie Jacobs, Allena Kaplan, Julie Hill, and Gayle Jimenez Jay.
