Universal Detection Technology Comments On Recent Inhalation Anthrax Death in the U.K.

UDT Supplied Kits Able to Detect All Anthrax Strains

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Universal Detection Technology (http://www.udetection.com) (OTCBB:UDTT) (Frankfurt:P08), a developer and provider of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and radiological weapons, commented today on the recent fatality caused by inhalation anthrax in the United Kingdom. The fatality was caused by a man playing or handling a drum made of animal skin, and is the second such case in the past year after three people were infected with anthrax in Connecticut in September. UDTT is a supplier of handheld kits designed to detect all strains of Anthrax, which include less virulent naturally occurring strains as well as virulent strains such as the Ames strain that was used in the 2001 Anthrax mailings.

According to the U.K. health Authority, "The speed of onset of the illness and resulting sudden death serve to illustrate the potential devastating impact of this disease." The health authority response to the case -- which involved identifying 150 people "at high risk of exposure to the disease," giving antibiotics to 70 of those, and disinfecting two properties -- cost GBP930,000.

"Although the anthrax incidents in the past year were not a result of bioterrorism, they show the lethality of the disease," said Jacques Tizabi, UDTT's Chief Executive Officer. "We currently supply one of the most sensitive Anthrax tests on the market to clients in the U.S. and overseas," he added.
