First New South Wales Police TASER Deployment Against a Man With a Meat Cleaver

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Dec. 17, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to the Daily Telegraph in Australia, "A man holding a person hostage armed with a meat cleaver has became the first person shot with a TASER stun-gun in New South Wales, with officers shocking the man three times after he allegedly lunged at them with a knife." The woman was released unharmed before the man was stunned by police.

TASERs were introduced into NSW by the Government in May 2006. They are trialed by the NSW Police Public Order and Riot Squad Special Protection. NSW Police Association president Bob Pritchard last night said it was the first time he knew that the TASER had been used in a real-life situation in the state. "It just completely disables you, muscular wise and you fall straight to the ground," Mr. Pritchard said.
