The Power Situation in Norway as of 14 July 2004

Lysaker, 15 July 2004

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

From week 27 to week 28, the Swedish power production increased due to plenty precipitation and continued high nuclear power production among other factors. At the same time, the Nordic power consumption is lower in week 28 than in the previous week. Higher Swedish production has contributed to lower production for Norwegian hydropower producers and Danish thermal power producers. Further, the Norwegian and Danish import from Sweden has been doubling from week 27. The total Norwegian net import was 267 GWh throughout week 28.

The energy content to the Norwegian hydropower reservoirs increased with 2.2 per cent throughout week 28, after a week with less influx than normal. As of Monday July 12, the energy content was 63.6 per cent full. That is 2.5 percentage points higher than last year's figures. The reservoirs level in Sweden is now 65.5 per cent full, after an increase during week 28 of 6.8 percentage points.

An average of the 15 most reasonable low-cost national power suppliers' standard variable power contract yields a price of 0.334 NOK/kWh in week 31. This is a decrease of 0.001 NOK/kWh from week 30.
