Lysaker, 04 June 2004

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

In week 22, the influx of water that may be utilized for Norwegian power production was 40 per cent of what is normal for this time of year. In greater parts of the country the snow melting is over, and in addition there was less precipitation during week 22. Low influx led to an increase of only 0.7 percentage points during the week. As of 31 May, the reservoir level in the Norwegian hydropower reservoirs was 47.6 per cent. That is 3.3 percentage points lower than the median level for the period 1990-2003, but nevertheless 12.9 percentage points higher than last year's figures. The reservoir level in Sweden ended up at 42.1 per cent at the beginning of week 23, after an increase of 2 percentage points.
The influx is expected to rise in the current week as a result of higher temperatures and more precipitation. Nevertheless, the influx is expected to be lower than normal primarily due to much less snow than previous years.
In Sweden, the power production was reduced from week 21 to week 22 as a consequence of yearly maintenance of power plants. The Swedish power import rose considerably from last week. For Norway this led to lower imports from Sweden.
