The Power Situation in Norway as of 10 December

Lysaker, 10 December 2003

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

The level in the Norwegian water reservoirs was 60.6 percent full in the beginning of week 50. This is a decrease of 1.4 percentage points from last week. In Sweden the hydropower reservoir levels dropped 1.6 percentage points to 54.3 per cent.

More precipitation than normal in week 49 has led to almost normal influx to the water reservoirs, simultaneous with increasing snow reservoir. Increased precipitation and continuously mild weather may lead to influx above normal in week 50. The snow reservoirs will probably reach normal amounts for the season by the end of week 50.

Mild weather continues to give a lower consumption. In week 49, the Nordic countries had an aggregated consumption of approximately 8 TWh , compared to 9 TWh for the corresponding week last year. The Norwegian net import was 218 GWh in week 49.

The prices in the day and financial market continue to fall, and this has resulted in the power suppliers adjusting the prices downwards on standard variable contracts for households. The average price will probably be 56.7 øre/kWh in week 52. This is a decrease of 1.3 øre/kWh from week 50.
