The Power Situation in Norway as of 5 October 2005

Lysaker, 6 October 2005

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

In week 39, the inflow to the Norwegian hydro power reservoirs has been about normal. In the preceding five weeks there has been considerably more inflow than normal. The reservoir level in Norway was 89.3 percent at the end of week 39. During the week the level has increased with 0.5 percentage points. The level is now 1.7 percentage points above normal and 11.3 percentage points more than in the corresponding week last year. In Sweden, the reservoir level dropped with 0.5 percentage points to 89.6 percent.

High inflows in Norway and Sweden between weeks 34-38 have contributed to falling prices in the Nordic power market in this period. The prices increased weakly again from week 38 to 39, due to lower inflows.

Electricity prices to consumers did not change much from the previous week. The average price among the dominating suppliers offering standard variable contracts is NOK 0.358/kWh from week 42. The average price on the similar contract offered by the 15 cheapest suppliers is NOK 0.332/kWh.
