The Power Situation in Norway as of 02 February 2005

Lysaker, 02 February 2005

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Increased prices, more water in the reservoirs, and much snow, led to increased Norwegian electricity production and a net export of 430 GWh in week 4. That is the highest Norwegian net export during one week since week 36 in 2002, and the highest ever recorded during the winter season. High German prices throughout week 4 have resulted in a steady Nordic electricity export to Germany. Along with colder weather and increased electricity consumption, this contributed to increased prices also in the Nordic area.

The inflow of water to the Norwegian hydropower reservoirs was 30 per cent higher than normal in week 4. At the end of the week, the reservoir filling level was 64.5 per cent, which is 1.9 percentage points above normal. Compared to last year, the reservoir filling is 17.5 percentage points higher. In Sweden, the reservoir filling level is now 52.8 per cent, after a reduction of 3.4 percentage points during week 4.
