The Power Situation in Norway as of 26 January 2005

Lysaker, 26 January 2005

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

In week 3, there has been more than twice the amount of normal inflows for this week. In total there has been an inflow of about 6.2 TWh during the last three weeks, i.e. almost 4 TWh more than normal in this period. An improved resource situation has lead to increased production from hydro-electric power stations in Norway. In week 3 the production, with some 3 TWh, was the highest recorded since the winter 2001/2002. Despite this, the reservoir level has fallen with only 2.0 percentage points, due to the high inflow. Consequently the reservoir levels in Norway now are 69.5 percent. In Sweden, the reservoir filling is now 56.2 percent, after a reduction of 2.9 percentage points during week 3.

High Norwegian production, combined with relatively low consumption, due to mild weather, has resulted in high net export from Norway to Denmark and Sweden also in week 3. From Denmark and Sweden there have been considerable exports to respectively Germany and Finland.
