The Power Situation in Norway as of 15 September 2004

Lysaker, 15 September 2004

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Influx close to normal into the Norwegian hydropower reservoir contributed to increase the reservoir filling with 0.8 percentage points through week 37. As of Monday 13 September, the level in Norwegian hydropower reservoirs was 73 per cent. This is 4.2 percentage points higher than at the corresponding time last year. In Sweden, energy content rose 0.8 percentage points, and is now 74.4 per cent

An increasing Nordic power demand has been met with increased power production in Sweden. This growth has also compensated for a lower Nordic net import, mainly due to higher prices in Germany. The Norwegian net import of power on the other hand, increased to 121 GWh in week 37.

Falling prices in the Nordic wholesale- and future power market has lead to lower end-user prices. The variable power price quoted by the 15 least expensive suppliers for week 40 is 0.353 NOK/kWh. This is a reduction of 0.004 NOK/kWh compared to the price for week 39. In comparison, the price quoted by the dominating power suppliers for the same product is reduced by 0.001 NOK/kWh to 0.379 NOK/kWh in week 40.
