The Power Situation in Norway as of 08 September 2004

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):     

Influx above normal increased the level in the Norwegian hydropower reservoir with 1.7 percentage points throughout week 36. The hydro level is now 72.2 per cent, and this is 4.2 percentage points higher than at the same time last year. In Sweden, the hydro level is 73.6 per cent after an increase of 1.2 percentage points throughout week 36. 

The Swedish power production increased from week 35 to week 36 as a result of the nuclear power plant being put back into operation after yearly maintenance. Increased production in Sweden led to a Norwegian net import of 97 GWh in week 36. 

As a result of increased Swedish production the spot price dropped from week 35 to week 36. The Nordic system price fell 0.009 NOK/kWh to 0.27 NOK/kWh. The standard variable power price from the dominating power suppliers is expected to increase with 0.002 NOK/kWh from week 38 to week 39. A corresponding increase is expected from the 15 most reasonable low-cost national suppliers. The average for the 15 low-cost suppliers is now 0.02 NOK/kWh lower than the dominating suppliers.
