The Power Situation in Norway as of 28 July 2004

Lysaker, 28 July 2004

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Continued high power production in Sweden and increasing power import from Russia to the Nordic countries have contributed to the lower Norwegian production observed in week 29. This trend was also persistent in week 30. During week 30, the Norwegian production was 1,249 GWh. Lower power prices in Sweden have contributed to the Norwegian power import being high also in week 30. Throughout the week the total Norwegian net import was 376 GWh.

During week 30, the water influx to the Norwegian hydro reservoirs was close to normal. The energy content increased with 2.2 percentage points through week 30. As of Monday July 26, 2004 the reservoir level was 67.5 per cent full. Compared with last year's figures, the reservoir level is 2.4 percentage points higher this year. In Sweden, the energy content is now 71.2 per cent after an increase through week 30 of 3 percentage points.

The average price for a standard variable power contract from the 15 most reasonable low-cost national power suppliers yield a price of 0.334 NOK/kWh in week 33.
