The Power Situation in Norway as of 31 October 2007

Lysaker, 31 October 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Norwegian export since April
It has been Norwegian net export of electricity since the last week of April. The net export was on its highest level with 598 GWh in week 34. Thereafter it has decreased towards 115 GWh in week 43. Total Norwegian net export has been 10 TWh the last 27 weeks. That amounts to 18 percent of the Norwegian production in this period. The large export is due to high production caused by high inflow and almost full reservoirs. The inflow to Norwegian reservoirs has been 15 percent above normal so far this year. Last year the inflow was 22 percent below normal.

The average spot price in Southern Norway rose from 30 øre/kWh in week 42 to 34 øre/kWh in week 43. It is the first time since week 17 the price in Southern Norway is higher than the prices in rest of Norway. In Middle and Northern Norway the price was 32 øre/kWh in week 43.

In week 43 a spot price contract, with a 1.9 øre/kWh mark-up, would have given a price of 44 øre/kWh to a regular consumer in Southern Norway, up nearly 5 øre from week 42. In Middle and Northern Norway the same type of contract would have given a price of 42 øre/kWh.
