The Power Situation in Norway as of 17 October 2007

Lysaker, 17 October 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Large decrease of the Norwegian power export
Colder weather caused increased Norwegian power consumption and less precipitation caused lower power production in week 41. This led to a 50 percent reduction of the Norwegian net export of electric power from week 40 to 41. With that, the total Norwegian net export was 236 GWh the last week.

The inflow to the Norwegian reservoirs was 35 percent lower than normal in week 41. This resulted in a reduction of the total reservoir levels in Norway of 1.1 percentage points compared to the week before. In Middle Norway the reservoir levels increased by 0.2 percentage points. In Sweden the reservoir levels dropped by 0.5 percentage points to 83.5 percent. Nordic electricity production and consumption increased substantially from week 40 to week 41. It has, however, been a marginal reduction of total Nordic net import over the period.

With exception of Denmark, the rise in the Nordic electricity prices continued in week 41. In Southern Norway the price increased steadily from 18.4 øre/kWh in week 40 to 23.8 øre/kWh in week 41. Thus, the price in Southern Norway approached the prices in Middle and North Norway, which were 27.6 and 27.4 øre/kWh respectively the last week.
