The Power Situation in Norway as of 10 October 2007

Lysaker, 10 October 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Higher prices in the Nordic market
The electricity prices rose in all the Nordic countries between week 39 and 40. At the Nordic Power Exchange, the prices for electricity in Southern Norway increased from 13.7 øre/kWh in week 39 up to 18.4 øre/kWh in week 40. In Middle and Northern Norway the average price last week was 24.3 and 23.2 øre/kWh respectively. Colder weather and increased consumption in addition to decreased inflow -- contributed to higher prices in the three Norwegian regions.

In week 40 a spot price contract, with a 1.9 øre/kWh mark-up, would have given a price of 25 øre/including VAT to a regular consumer in Southern Norway. In Middle and Northern Norway the same type of contract would have given prices of respectively 32.3 øre/kWh and 30.8 øre/kWh.

The inflow to the Norwegian reservoirs was down to approx. 70 percent of normal levels in week 40. Decreased inflow and continued high Norwegian power production -- resulted in a 1 percent fall in reservoir levels from week 39 to week 40. At the end of week 40 the reservoirs combined were 93 percent full. This is 5 percent above normal levels. In Sweden reservoir levels increased by 0.1 percentage points throughout week 40, down to 84.0 percent.
