The Power Situation in Norway as of 3 October 2007

Lysaker, 3 October 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Inflow above normal
The inflow to the Norwegian reservoirs was 20 percent above normal in week 39. So far this year, the inflow has been 120 TWh; witch is 22 TWh more than normal. In spite of high power production, the high level of inflows made the reservoir level increase by 0.4 percentage points during week 39. The Norwegian reservoir level was 94 percent at the end of the week. This is about 6 percentage points above normal. The reservoir level is the highest in the south and middle of Norway. In Sweden, the reservoir level rose by 0.2 percentage points throughout week 39, to 83.9 percent.

High inflow has contributed to a high level of power production in Norway this year. During the first three quarters the Norwegian power production amounts to 99.5 TWh. This is 8.2 TWh more than in the same period last year. Norwegian power consumption is 90.5 TWh so far this year, an increase by 1 percent compared to the same quarters of 2006. This means that the total Norwegian export is 9 TWh so far in 2007, meaning that 9 percent of the total power production has been exported to our neighbouring countries.
