The Power Situation in Norway as of 26 September 2007

Lysaker, 26 September 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

High Norwegian electricity production and export
The electricity production in Norway was 2.8 TWh in week 38. That is 60 percent more than in the corresponding week last year. During the last ten weeks the production has been 25.3 TWh. This is the highest production in this period ever. Also, exports from Norway in the same period have peaked, with a total of 5.4 TWh to Sweden and Denmark.

The inflow to the Norwegian reservoirs was 10 percent above normal in week 38. Hence, the reservoir level in Norway increased with 0.1 percentage points, despite high production. At the end of week 38 the level was 93.6 percent, i.e. equivalent to 4.5 TWh more in the reservoirs than normal. Compared to the same week last year there is about 27 TWh more in the reservoirs. The reservoir level in Sweden increased with 1.0 percentage points to 83.7 percent.

At the Nordic Power Exchange the prices for electricity in Norway fell from week 37 to week 38. The decrease was largest in Middle- and North-Norway where the prices fell with 2.6 øre/kWh to 19.4 øre/kWh and 19.6 øre/kWh respectively. Southern Norway still has the lowest price in the Nordic Region, with 14.7 øre/kWh. In the other Nordic countries the price has been about 27 øre/kWh.
