The Power Situation in Norway as of 9 May 2007

Lysaker, 9 May 2007

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Record high inflows and Norwegian power production
Inflow to Norwegian reservoirs has been about 9 TWh in the two latest weeks. This amounts for 7.5 percent of the normal yearly inflow. The reservoir level increased by 3.0 percentage points throughout week 18, making the reservoir level 41.5 percent at the end of the week. The energy content of the Norwegian hydro reservoirs is now 6 TWh above normal.
High inflows and healthy reservoir levels contributed to a relatively high degree of Norwegian hydro power production in week 18. The production was 31 percent above the level observed in the same week last year.

The price at the Nordic power exchange was 16.5 øre/kWh in week 18, after a drop of 5 percent from the week before. The spot price is now half of what it was one year ago, and it has not been this low since the autumn of 2002.
